It’s always been about Soup!

Lentil Soup - yum!

Soup saved my life!

Well okay, not my life, but my digestive health and my vitamin intake. So pretty much my life, and the happiness I crave and strive for everyday.

In my quest for said happiness and health, I got caught up in a supplement rabbit hole, taking everything to ADD to my already alright diet. Go figure.

We are told everywhere we look on the internet that this supplement and that supplement is helpful, we simply MUST take it for our health and wellbeing. But, here’s the thing, we don’t have to and really should have to unless advised by a nutritionist.

That’s right.

Yep, honestly.

Unless a dietician, doctor or nutritionist has run tests on you, listened to your concerns and given you a health check - ditch the supplements. This matter especially if you are not feeling better. We can over-vitamin, it’s true. Some vitamins can negatively impact the absorption other minerals and vitamins.

Carrot and Coriander Soup - yum!

Instead, go to the local market, or better still order a box of seasonal veg, and make soup. Soup is highly nutritious and like those appealing smoothies and juices, (read apple juice, yes always check the label) soup is packed full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. When people say ‘eat the rainbow’ and ‘eat like the Mediterranean’s do’, it isn’t a sales pitch, it’s damn good advice.

One of the best things about soup is it’s a fridge raider/ eco friendly / using up the leftovers meal. Literally anything you have in your fridge about to head to the food bin, could be soup. It’s all nutritional.

My general rule of thumb is get a good base stock, low salt, and you are ready. Have stock in our cupboard, put it on your shopping list. With stock you are never far away from a good, healthy and nutritious meal.
